Auto Air Conditioning
Service - Whenever you replace an A/C compressor, it's a good
idea to install an in-line filter. But don't be confused because the
suction side filtes do nothing to prevent your compressor from failing
again and what's worse, is that a poorly
installed suction fileter could
easily become loose and get sucked inside the compressor
causing immediate and catastrophic compressor failuer.

The
Auto A/C Service Question was... You've
heard that vehicle manufacturer's no longer support flushing A/C systems.
You've just replaced the compressor, drier and expansion valve. You don't
have to flush the system because the vehcile manufacturer said
so.
Vehicle
manufacturers no longer support flushing of the A/C system because
all of the flush compounds that they recommended have become illegal to use
for cleaning purposes (where they are released to atmosphere). Thats
because most of them were a CFC based refrigerant, and most (if not all)
CFCs have been banned.
The
truth of the matter is that flushing the A/C system is a very important part
of proper A/C service and restoring the A/C system after a compressor failure.
The problem is that you will be inducing chemicals (other than refrigerant
or A/C oil) into the A/C system, and special care must be taken to assure
that all of the chemicals and traces or residues are removed before replacing
the compressor. Above that, its important to understand the correct
procedure for flushing and what parts must never be flushed. See the
correct
answer for full details.
