The
Auto A/C Service Question was... It's
70°F (or about 21°C) outside. You connect pressure gauges to the
A/C system and static pressure gauge readings
are about 50 psi. You should just add refrigerant
because it's probably low.
First,
understand that the pressure gauge readings can never tell you how much
refrigerant is in the A/C system, regardless of whether the system is running
or not.
But
when you first connect pressure gauges, you only get static pressures. What
those pressures should reflect is the refrigerant pressure for the temperature
of the day. Therefore, because the ambient air temperature is 70°F,
the static pressure guage readings should be close to that. When the static
pressures are 50 psi, the system is really just about empty. See the correct
